Charity Calendar

Rose and her family are currently producing a charity Calendar of scenic photos of Donegal, the photos from around the county have been taken by Rose. Thanks to our kind sponsors All money from the sale of the calendars will go directly to help provide food, shelter and education for the deprived children of the Shanty town of Finetown in South Africa. Rose has a personal association with the charity as her aunt Sr Margaret Sweeney works there. Sr Margaret, a Salesian Sister, from Fanad, Co. Donegal, has spent the last 29 years working with the poor and underprivileged both in Lesotho and in South Africa. She has spent the last 7 years in Finetown, a large squatter camp or shanty town, south of Johannesburg, in South Africa.
Finetown is an economically depressed area in which social deprivation is the order of the day and in which the socio-economic reality is one of dire poverty, underdevelopment, family disintegration, unemployment and ill-health. These are the conditions in which the Salesian Sisters (FMA) and the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) are committed to work with and support vulnerable communities.
The children who attend the project often come hungry, so they are provided with two meals per day: Breakfast and lunch, and many are given food parcels to bring home. Some of these children are HIV positive – the exact number unknown – and need nourishment to keep well.
Anyone wishing to find out any more information on the charity or make a donation please contact Rose on 0868054760 or email rose@theblaneygroup.com . The calendars will be on sale at The Silver Tassie Hotel and around the county from the end of June 2012.
